RS Organizes a Workshop Entitled: “The Path to Obtaining Patents”

Under the patronage of Acting Vice President for Research Prof. Othman Al-Khudir, the Research Sector – The Office of External Research Collaboration and Consultation –organized a workshop entitled “The Path to Obtaining Patents” for faculty members and graduate students. The workshop took place on Sunday 18 December 2022 at the Institutional Innovation Center in Khaldiya Campus, which was conducted by Dr. Nasir Al-Sayegh from Kuwait Institution for Scientific Research (KISR).

Dr. Nasir Al-Sayegh explained that most inventions are discovered by coincidence through research activity, but the time for change has come to discover inventions through more organized methods. Therefore, the aim of this workshop is to guide researchers through an effective roadmap to discover and obtain patents using an interesting, simple and entertaining method.

Dr. Nasir Al-Sayegh also added: The workshop aims to aid researchers to identify and discover possible inventions through the challenges which they face in their daily lives through introducing them to patents, and steps which they can follows to develop ideas into patents. It will also enable them to think like an inventor and to introduce them to the various search engines that specialize in patents, as well as to teach them how to fill patents submission forms. The workshop will also address the evaluation journey to obtain patents. Work groups were formed to develop possible patents in order for them to be added to Kuwait University’s scientific outcomes.

Dr. Haneen Al- Ghabra, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation, explained that this collaboration with Dr. Nasir Al-Sayegh from Kuwait Institution for Scientific Research (KISR) to present this workshop entitled “The Path to Obtaining Patents” for KU affiliates falls within the framework to continue the scientific research between Kuwait University (KU) and scientific institutions in order to support inventors and inventions.  Dr. Al-Ghabra also added that it is a vital goal to elevate KU academic and scientific standing, and to strive to enhance its global rank as well as increase the number of patent-holding researchers. This aim is one of the university’s key priorities, as it has the dedication and support of the upper management in order to enhance KU’s institutional role as a distinguished pioneering national university in the field of higher education and scientific research.
