The RS Holds the Second Meeting for the Joint Committee between Kuwait University and Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research

Under the patronage and attendance of Prof. Othman Al-Khudher, Acting Vice President for Research, the Research Sector organized the Second Meeting for the Joint Committee between Kuwait University and Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). The meeting, held within the framework of the previously signed agreement between the parties on May 19th, 2019, was attended by Dr. Manea Al-Sudairawi, KISR’s Acting Director General and Director of the Science and Technology Sector, Dr. Haneen Al-Ghabra, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration & Consultation, Dr. Faten Al-Jabsheh, Head of the Scientific & Technical Support Division at KISR, Dr. Mohammed Al-Ramadhan, Director of Research at KFAS, Dr. Maitham Safar, a KU academic faculty member and a consultant at KFAS, and a group of interested researchers. The meeting took place on Tuesday, November 29th, 2022 at the Cultural Center in Sabah Al-Salem University City, Shadadiya.

The meeting commenced with a speech by Prof. Othman Al-Khudher, Acting Vice President for Research, in which he welcomed the guests and signaled that the RS has established distinct scientific alliances with many externals institutions, yet its scientific and research collaboration with KISR is considered one of the most significant and well-grounded partnerships that spanned many years.

On his part, Dr. Manea Al-Sudairawi, Acting Director General and Director of the Science and Technology Sector at KISR, emphasized the importance of employing the scientific expertise of both parties in enhancing scientific and research integration in this joint work which is expected to yield applied projects in disciplines essential to the State of Kuwait.

Dr. Haneen Al-Ghabra, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration & Consultation, stated that focus of research teams must be oriented towards the strategic plan that goes in line with Kuwait Vision 2035 and the United Nations Sustainable Development goals through facilities development, capacity building, human development, and increased productivity.

She further discussed how joint research projects between KU and KISR can tackle important aspects of Kuwait Vision 2035 through restoring the regional leadership role of Kuwait as a financial and commercial hub and reconstructing the bodies and institutions of the country, in addition to enabling work empowerment and productivity, providing new infrastructure, legislation and climate to ensure total and balanced human resource development as well as aiming at consolidating the values of society, preserving its identity and achieving justice, political participation and freedoms.

Dr. Faten Al-Jabsheh, Head of Scientific & Technical Support Division at KISR and member of the joint committee, introduced the work teams that included researchers from KU and KISR; the six work teams are: Energy and Construction, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Water, Petroleum and Economics and Information Sciences. Dr. Faten Al-Jabsheh added that these work teams will provide research and scientific recommendations for new joint research projects prepared over the previous period.

The signed agreement between the parties consisted of several items including promoting scientific collaboration between KU and KISR through scientific seminars and annual meetings bringing together researchers from both institutions to introduce research expertise and build executive work teams in order to achieve the highest level of efficiency. The agreement also aimed at encouraging and implementing joint research in areas of common interest in an attempt to save costs and focus efforts to reach the best results.
