RS organizes a workshop on: “Google Applications”

Represented by the Office of External Research Collaboration and Consultation, the Research Sector organized a workshop on “Google Applications” for academic faculty members, assistant academic faculty members and graduate students. The workshop was presented by Dr. Hisham Al-Sarhan from the College of Social Sciences - Department of Information Studies. The event was held on Monday, 10/10/2022, at the Institutional Innovation Hall – Khaldiya Campus.

The workshop is intended to introduce different Google applications to KU’s researchers and demonstrate how these applications can be employed academically.

Dr. Al-Sarhan explained that Google applications in this workshop are sectioned according to their functions and potential to academics, as follows:
• Communication and team work applications including Google Keep, Drive, Docs, Meet, and Groups.
• Data collection and analysis applications such as Google Forms, Sheets, BigQuery, and Data Studio.
•  Presentation and dissemination applications like Google Slides and Google Sites.

Dr. Al-Sarhan spoke about Google being a pioneer in artificial intelligence technology and machine learning, offering efficient applications and tools useful in enhancing academic work. Researchers can use Google applications to collect and analyze data as well as to display and share their research outputs. He added that presenting this workshop in cooperation with the Research Sector is a great opportunity for researchers to learn about some of the applications offered by Google in the sphere of scientific research and academic activity.

Meanwhile, Dr. Haneen Al-Ghabra, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation, commented that the Research Sector carries forward its sustained efforts in developing capabilities and caliber of faculty and graduate students through a variety of specialized training courses and workshops helping researchers attain research excellence and scientific acclaim. It is within this frame that the RS organized “Google Applications” workshop to guarantee the effective utilization of modern technology by KU’s researchers in achieving innovative scientific research.

At the end of the event, Dr. Al-Ghabra thanked Dr. Al- Sarhan for his efforts and presented him with an honorary plaque.
