RS Holds a Workshop on: “Information Sources and Referencing According to the American Psychological Association (APA) Style”

Continuing its mission of enhancing scientific research at Kuwait University, the Office of External Research Collaboration organized a workshop on: “Information Sources and Referencing According to the American Psychological Association (APA) Style” presented by Batool Al-Hendal of the College of Social Sciences and dedicated to KU’s academic staff and graduate students. The workshop was held on Sunday 22/5/2022 at the Faculty of Science in Sabah AL-Salem University Campus.

In organizing this workshop, the RS aims to recognize Arabic and foreign databases, identifying the referencing steps with a practical application on citations within the text of the paper and the reference list for different information resources such as books, journals, social media platforms, etc.

Outlining the significance of the workshop, Al-Hendal said that referencing is a crucial requirement of scientific research writing considering its key role in enhancing research ethics; moreover, scientific integrity requires the researcher to indicate information sources and credit original authors preserving the authorship rights of precedent researchers. Despite the many referencing styles and methods, researchers must adopt one consistent style in citing sources.

Some humanities faculties at Kuwait University follow the APA style, a prominent referencing format that consists of two parts:  citations within the text of the paper and the reference list.

At the end of the workshop, Dr. Haneen Al-Ghabra, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation, thanked the speaker Al-Hendal for her efforts and presented her with a memento.
