RS Organizes Research Awards Ceremony for the Academic Year 2018/2019

Honoring the Recipients of Distinguished Researcher Awards, Best Young Researcher Awards, Patents Recipients, and Scientific Poster Day Winners for the Academic Year 2018/2019

Under the patronage and presence of KU President, Prof. Hussein Al-Ansari, and in the presence of Vice Presidents, Faculty Deans of Scientific and Humanities Faculties, among a distinguished audience interested in scientific research at Kuwait University, the Office of Vice President for Research organized a Research Awards ceremony to honor winners of scientific research awards, recipients of patents registered at the USA Office, and winners of the best posters at the Scientific Poster Day Event for the academic year 2018/2019. The ceremony was held on Monday, 28 October, 2019 at the Conference Hall in the Presidential Building – Khaldiya Campus.

Under the Patronage of KU President

The ceremony was initiated by Prof. Jasem Yousuf Al-Kandari, Vice President for Research, welcoming the audience. He then extended his sincerest congratulations to the honored scientists and researchers on their distinguished scientific and research efforts that resulted in accomplishing top research, and achieving honors and scientific awards. He also encouraged them to continue their pursuit to elevate Kuwait University’s scientific and research standing.

In his speech on this special occasion, Prof. Hussein Al-Ansari explained that our main objective is to elevate Kuwait University’s scientific and academic standing, and work on the distinction of its programs and outcomes, which undoubtedly will enhance its global standing. He also explained that this objective will head the priorities of Kuwait University’s administration, and will receive appropriate attention and support. Proper scientific methods will also be followed to monitor performance indicators which ensure proper implementation of Kuwait University’s strategic plan.

Prof. Al-Ansari also emphasized that achieving distinction and elevating Kuwait University’s rank is an institutional duty that cannot be achieved in isolation from other institutions. Therefore, efforts must unit and integrate between all work centers to achieve this objective, and a clear implementation plan will be put in place for the sole purposes of achieving this goal.

KU President concluded his speech by extending his congratulations to the distinguished researchers who won research awards and registered patents, wishing them continuous success in accomplishing distinguished scientific research in the coming years. He also applauded the great efforts of the Office of Vice President for Research, especially RS, who constantly dedicated their efforts towards creating an infrastructure suitable for such a distinguished research edifice.

    

The honoring of researchers then followed, which started with the Distinguished Researcher Award in the field of Basic and Applied Sciences for the academic year 2018/2019 as follows:

- Prof. Mohammad Fahim – Department of Electrical Engineering – Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum.
- Prof. Najib Al-Samaoui – Department of Mathematics – Faculty of Science.
- Prof. Khaldoun Rahhal – Department of Civil Engineering – Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum.

The Distinguished Researcher Award in the field of Arts and Humanities was withheld.

 

Then followed Best Young Research Award in the field of Basic and Applied Sciences for the academic year 2018/2019:

- Dr. Hussein Behbehani – Department of Biological Sciences – Faculty of Science.

The Best Young Researcher Award in the field of Arts and Humanities was withheld.

 

As for Graduate Students award for PhD Holders for the academic year2018/2019, the award was given to:

- Mohammad Asadullah Asadzadah – Department of Microbiology – Faculty of Medicine.
- Abdulrahma Aabi Mahmoud – Department of Chemistry – Faculty of Science.

 

Graduate Students award for Masters Holders for the academic year 2018/2019 was awarded as follows:

- Zahraa Nasser Abbas – Department of Computer Engineering – Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum.
- Faisal Adnan Al-Qattan – Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences – Faculty of Science.
- Sara Khalid Al-Faris – Department of Belief, Invocation and Preaching Islam – Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies.
- Tahani Naif Al-Mutairi – Department of Educational Administration and Planning - Faculty of Education.

 

Prof. Jasem Al-Kandari announced that the Office of Patents at RS – Office of Vice President for Research has received five patents registered at the USA Office during the academic year 2018/2019, which are:

- Dr. Bader Shafaqa Al-Enzi – Department of Environmental Technology Management – Faculty of Life Sciences.
For his invention entitled: “Method of Recycling Brine from A Multi-Stage Flash Desalination Plant”

- Prof. Naif Abjad Alhab Al-Mutairi and Prof. Mohammad Bin Ahmad Al-Zuraibi – Department of Electrical Engineering – Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum.
For their invention entitled: “Heuristic Fuzzy Controller for a Gantry Crane System”

- Prof. Milad Sami Bitar and Prof. Fahad Rashid Al-Mulla – Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology – Faculty of Medicine.
For their invention entitled: “Method of Treating Delayed Healing of a Wound Associated with Diabetes”

- Prof. Imtiyaz Ahmad, Dr. Mohammad Gholoum Al-Failakawi and Eng. Mahmoud Abdulrahman Modawikh – Department of Computer Engineering – Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum.
For their invention entitled: “Minimizing Tow-Step and Hard State Transition in Multi-Level STT_Mram Devices”

- Dr. Hameed Ali Al-Sarraf – Department of Physiology – Faculty of Medicine.
For his invention entitled: “Small Animal Resistance System”

 

Prof. Laila Marouf, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation, congratulated researchers who received registered patents for their inventions, wishing them continuous success in their endeavors to achieve more scientific discoveries through advanced and innovative research.

At the end of the ceremony, Kuwait University President thanked the honored researchers for their dedicated efforts, wishing them further success, and more scientific and research achievements that serve science and elevate Kuwait University standing among elite global rankings.
