Office of the Vice President for Research, Represented by the Office of External Research Collaboration and Consultation, Organizes a Workshop on Data Science Fundamentals Using R System

Under the patronage of the Vice President for Research, Prof. Jasem Yousuf Al-Kandari, the Office of the Vice President for Research, represented by the Office of External Research Collaboration and Consultation, organized a workshop entitled “The Fundamentals of Data Science Using R System”, which was presented by Dr. Fatima Al-Qallaf, a faculty member at the Faculty of Science – Department of Statistics and Operations Research, on Tuesday, 26 November 2019, in Institutional Innovation Center at the Presidential Building – Khaldiya Campus.

Dr. Al-Qallaf presented through the workshop the method of extracting and preparing data, generating graphs, and the fundamentals of mechanical learning: regression and classification, and programming skills.

Dr. Al-Qallaf explained that data are crucial in our current times as they are considered “the Oil of the 21st Century”. She also added that it is possible to simplify data science, machine learning, and implementing subjects in a clear and easy method using the R System, which is considered one the most popular statistical languages.

Prof. Laila Marouf, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation, explained that the Office is dedicated to holding such workshops that simplify data science, which in turn aids faculty members and graduate students at Kuwait University in developing their programming skills, classification and preparation of data using an easy and simple method through the use of R System.

At the end of the workshop, Prof. Laila Marouf honored Dr. Fatima Al-Qallaf, thanking her for her dedicated efforts in presenting the workshop.
