RS Organizes a Data Entry and Manipulation Using “SPSS”

Under the patronage of Prof. Jasem Yousuf Al-Kandari, Vice President for Research, The Office of External Research Collaboration and Consultation at RS organized a data processing workshop using the statistical package “SPSS” for faculty members and graduate students at the scientific faculties. The workshop was held on Wednesday, 16 October, 2019, at Prof. Faiza Al-Kharafi building – Faculty of Science. The workshop was presented by Dr. Nouriya Al-Kandari and Dr. Siham Ahmad Ali from the Department of Statistics and Operation Research – Faculty of Science.

Prof. Marouf: A Great Turnout at the “SPSS” Workshop

Dr. Al-Kandari addressed the importance of the data collection and analysis process as an essential pillar to accomplish scientific research. This workshop aims to develop the skills and abilities of faculty members and graduate students at scientific faculties in regards to dealing with data and information in terms of data collection, inputting, reading, processing and management in an appropriate scientific method to ensure the most accurate results. The researcher’s knowledge of the correct method of research data inputting, saving, and ensuring the absence of errors is some of the basic steps that precede any descriptive or constructive statistical analysis. Statistical programs and calculators enable the user to conduct any analysis or statistical test and extract results without knowing the type of data required for each analysis or test, however, does the researcher get results that reflect reality? And this is where the importance of this workshop lies.

Dr. Nouriya Al-Kandari: Collecting and Analyzing Data is an Essential Pillar on Which Scientific Research Relies

The effectiveness of statistical analysis “SPSS” comes through data organization and management in a sound scientific method, in addition to its role in research findings analysis, conducting statistical tests, and writing sound scientific reports and research papers eligible for publication in Refereed Scientific Journals.

In tackling the importance of organizing such workshops, Prof. Laila Marouf, Assistant Vice President of External Research Collaboration and Consultation, explained that holding a data processing workshop using statistical package “SPSS” falls within the framework of RS mission to develop and enhance faculty members and graduate student capabilities and reforming their scientific and research skills to enable them to accomplish advanced and innovative high-quality scientific research.

At the end of the workshop, Prof. Laila Marouf honored Dr. Nouriya Al-Kandari and Dr. Siham Ahmad Ali, thanking them for their efforts in making this workshop a success, and benefiting faculty members and graduate students.
