The Research Sector Organizes an SPSS Workshop for Humanities Faculties

Under the patronage of Prof. Jasem Yousuf Al-Kandari, Vice President for Research, the Research Sector – the Office of External Research Collaboration and Consultation – organized an SPSS workshop for faculty members and graduate students in Humanities faculties, on Wednesday, October 9th 2019, in Abdullah Al-Jabir seminar hall, Shuweikh Campus. The workshop was presented by Prof. Hisham Jad Arrab from the department of Psychology - Faculty of Social Sciences at Kuwait University.

Prof. Laila Marouf: The demand on the workshop that RS holds is increasing annually

Prof. Jad Arrab explained that statistics is a science that specializes in methods of data collection, organization, summarization, presentation and analysis for the purpose of making appropriate decisions, where the data collected in a scientific way carry a lot of potential information that can be extracted if dealt with using the appropriate scientific method. The function of statistics from this perspective is to extract the latent power in data to improve the quality of decision-making.

The workshop presents SPSS, one of the most known programs in the field of statistical data analysis, in a focused and concise manner. It offers a simplified and progressive perspective of the program’s potential in testing a wide range of research hypotheses. The workshop aims to provide researchers with a set of basic skills in the field of humanities and social sciences in order to choose the appropriate statistical methods for data analysis and implementation using SPSS.

Prof. Hisham Jad Arrab: The use of statistics to enhance the process of decision making in a scientific manner

On this occasion, Prof. Laila Marouf, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation, explained that organizing SPSS workshops comes under RS’s mission to support and encourage scientific research, and to develop scientific and research capabilities of faculty members and graduate students. Prof. Marouf also pointed that RS is witnessing an annual increase in the demand of SPSS due to its importance in meeting the various needs related to scientific research, which motivates the Office of External Research Collaboration and Consultation at Research Sector to hold and organize similar workshops regularly to benefit faculty members and graduate students, and to support them in accomplishing advanced scientific research. 

In the end of the workshop, Prof. Laila Marouf honored Prof. Jad Arrab, thanking him for his efforts in making this workshop a success.
