In a bid to ensure wide exposure of scientific journals issued by Kuwait University's Academic Publishing Council (APC) and provide them digitally to researchers and academics around the world, Dr. Nasser Faisal Al-Tannak, Acting Vice President for Research and Chairman of the Academic Publishing Council, stated that the Research Sector signed a contract with the Saudi based Dar Al-Mandumah Institution, one of the most prominent and largest databases in the Arab world, and the American EBSCO company, a leading provider of international research databases. Both Dar Al-Mandumah and EBSCO provide wide dissemination of research published in scientific journals among universities and scientific and cultural institutions, in addition to e-Marefa and online journal websites.
Elaborating further, Dr. Al-Tannak explained that offering Open Access to journals research is a step towards including scientific studies published in APC's journals in digital databases, providing a vast integrated reference resource which allows access to research and studies for the benefit of professors, researchers and experts.
Dr. Nasser signaled that within a single year from the beginning of September 2023 until the end of August 2024, a total of 274,119 research papers and studies were downloaded from APC’s journals, an increase of nearly a quarter of a million research papers over last year, registering an unprecedented growth rate of 185.7%, a number that exceeded expectations. The increasing interest in these journals significantly reflect the reader's confidence in them and the APC's efforts to highlight KU's role in providing the scientific community with original advanced studies as well as to establish a clear picture of academic publishing status at Kuwait University.
