Under the patronage of Prof. Othman Al-Khudher, Acting Vice President for Research, the External Research Collaboration Office at the Research Sector organized a workshop on "How to Obtain a Patent" for academic faculty members and graduate students. The workshop, held on Tuesday 13/2/2024 at the Dean's Glass Hall, College of Engineering and Petroleum, was conducted by Dr. Naser Al-Sayegh, from Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR).

Speaking on the workshop, Dr. Al-Sayegh said that most inventions are accidentally discovered during research activities, and it is about time to change and develop inventions through more structured methods. He further stated that the workshop is intended to guide researchers towards a successful road map for discovery, obtain patents in a simple yet interesting way, help them identify and discover potential inventions from the challenges they face in their daily lives, introduce them to patents, and provide steps to develop ideas into patents and how to think like an inventor. He added that the workshop also aims to introduce researchers to the various search engines dedicated to patents, demonstrate how to write a patent application form, discuss the evaluation journey to obtain patents, and form working groups to develop potential patents to be added to KU's scientific outputs.

On her part, Dr. Haneen Al-Ghabra, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultations, stated that within the framework of sustained research collaboration between Kuwait University and other scientific institutions in order to support inventions and inventors, the RS collaborated with Dr. Naser Al-Sayegh from Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research to deliver a workshop on "How to Obtain a Patent" for KU's academic faculty members and graduate students. Dr. Al-Ghabra said that the goal is to enhance KU's academic and scientific level and improve its international classification by increasing the number of researchers who have obtained patents. This goal is a top priority for the University administration and receives its full support and attention, enhancing KU's role as a distinguished national university pioneering in higher education and scientific research.
