The training workshop aimed to teach the programming language R and the use of R Studio to analyze quantitative and descriptive data, draw graphic representations, as well as how to read them, and how to implement the basics of statistical analysis.
The workshop discussed several aspects, including an introduction to R system and how to install it, understanding data and converting them into forms and graphic drawings. It also discussed statistical description of data through various statistical standards, as well as an introduction to statistical hypotheses tests, unilateral contrast analysis, correlation and slope.
On her part, Dr. Hajar Al-Khazi explained that R system is one of the programs which have recently ascended rapidly in the field of statistics, and its use and mention has become visible in many universities, research centers and scientific magazines. This is due to the fact that’s a free-access program. All of this led to an increase in the available and accessible material on the web in terms of e-books and educational classes, in addition to ready-made programs written in R to carry out this task, which made it the best commercial alternative to programs that are defective by their high price on the one hand, and their slow updates addition on the other.
Dr. Al-Khazi also added that through this course, she tried to provide simplified introductory points on the basics of R system to explore some of its capabilities and uses by recapping the basic statistical concepts and their application to the program as well as data analysis.
On this occasion, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation, Dr. Haneen Al-Ghabra explained that the Research Sector monitors an annual increase in the demand for workshops on the R System for Data Analysis due to its importance in meeting various needs related to scientific research, which drives The Office of External Research Collaboration and Consultation at RS to conduct and organize such workshops in order to benefit Kuwait University affiliates and support them in achieving scientific research and raising Kuwait University's ranking.
