Under the patronage of Prof. Abdulla Jawad Sultan, the Vice President for Research, the Research Sector organized an honoring ceremony for the inventor Prof. Milad Sami Baitar from the department of Pharmacology, the Faculty of Medicine, for obtaining a patent registered in the US Patents and Trademark Office for his invention " Sulforaphane-cysteine" for treating wounds in diabetic patients. The ceremony was held on Monday, 29 September 2025 in the premises of the RS.
The ceremony started with a welcoming speech of the VPR saying: " our meeting today is in appreciation of the scientific and research efforts made by Prof. Baitar, which resulted in the invention of a treatment for wounds in diabetic patients. It's a scientific achievement tat reflects the level of scientific research in Kuwait University and confirms that our national institutions have the capacity to provide innovative solutions to chronic health problems.
Prof. Baitar thanked RS for their support of this invention, adding: " the patent reveals new therapeutic strategies represented in this medicine which target oxidative stress and inflammatory factors in chronic non-healing wounds. Results have shown that the drug is more effective than currently available treatments for this condition".
This achievement is part of a series of successes achieved by Kuwait University in the field of scientific research, for supporting researcher and encouraging them to innovate is a strategic priority for the Research Sector, stemming from KU's role in serving the community and achieving Kuwait's Vision 2035.
