The Research Sector Honored Patent-Holding Faculty Researchers

Represented by the Patent and Intellectual Property Rights Office in the Research Sector, and with the efforts of academic faculty members, Kuwait University registered four patents during the 2024/2025 academic year. The researchers were honored by the Vice President for Research, Prof. Abdullah Jawad Sultan, on Sunday, 13/7/2025.

The event is a tribute to the distinguished research achievements of faculty researchers who have obtained registered patents backed by the proactive support of the Patent and Intellectual Property Rights Office to facilitate patent registration. Prof. Abdullah Jawad Sultan congratulated the patent-holding academic staff for their outstanding accomplishments, wishing them further success in their research endeavors.

The inventors were honored as follows:

• Dr. Nawaf Al-Juwayhel, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Acting Vice Dean for Student Affairs, College of Engineering and Petroleum, Dr. Nasser Al-Sayegh, a researcher in nano applications in the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, Eng. Ali Al-Sayegh, General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, Eng. Hessa Al-Thallab, Eng. Maryam Jamali, and Eng. Hessa Al-Hamdan, for their patent "Adjustable cross-sectional area sample container."

• Dr. Nawaf Al-Juwayhel, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Acting Vice Dean for Student Affairs, College of Engineering and Petroleum, Dr. Nasser Al-Sayegh, a researcher in nano applications in the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, and Abbas Hamoud, Senior Research Associate in the Petroleum Research Center, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, for their patent "Effervescent Tablet for Enhanced Oil Recovery and Enhanced oil Recovery Method Using the Same."

• Dr. Nawaf Al-Juwayhel, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Acting Vice Dean for Student Affairs, College of Engineering and Petroleum, Dr. Nasser Al-Sayegh, a researcher in nano applications in the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, and Eng. Maryam Jamali, for their patent "Solar still water treatment using carbon-based effervescent tablets and related methods."

• Prof. Bader Shafaqa Al-Enezi, Department of Environmental Technology, College of Life Sciences, for his patent "Brine dispenser for brine dispensing experiments utilizing multi-plunging liquid jet reactors."

For his part, Dr. Mabkhoot Al-Dosari, Assistant Vice President for Research External Collaboration and Consultation, stated that scientific advancement and sustainable economic development are the result of solid scientific research that aims to find innovative solutions yielding new products through patent registration and intellectual property rights. He added that Kuwait University, represented by the Research Sector, encourages researchers in various disciplines, providing them with continuous support and high-quality services in line with Kuwait Vision 2035 and sustainable development plans. Dr. Al-Dosari thanked all who contributed to these inventions, which reflect the quality standards adopted by Kuwait University to raise its global ranking and achieve excellence in research and community service consistent with the needs of the Kuwaiti society and labor market.
