
The Research Sector offers numerous research grants to support researcher’s ambitions and achieve scientific and research accomplishments that enhance Kuwait University's journey to prestigious international levels and contribute to raising KU's global ranking. The Research Initiation Grant (RIG) is one of the research grants categories offered by RS exclusively to new Kuwaiti academic staff members, who have recently joined KU as assistant professors and have not been at KU for more than two years.
Dr. Naser F. Al-Tannak, the Assistant Vice President for Research Analysis and Development, invited new Kuwaiti academic staff members to benefit from this grant, as it represents a start towards applying for the various other research grants categories funded by RS, enabling them to understand the procedures for applying for support, and to learn about the financial procedures related to projects and how to deal with them. The maximum duration of the grant project is 12 months, with a budget not exceeding 2000 Kuwaiti Dinars, and the budget expenditure items are limited to equipment, consumables, and temporary manpower.
Dr. Al-Tannak stated that application for RIG opened from 14 September 2025 to 28 February 2026, he also invited all new Kuwaiti academic staff members to visit the Research Sector's website to review article (57), chapter (13) of the Research Support Rules and Regulations for more details concerning RIG projects. They can also apply for the grant through the Research Portal on the RS's website, wishing everyone continued success.
Please note that work on RIG projects begins from the first of April of each year and ends on 31 of March of the following year.
