Under the patronage of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawwaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and with the presence of his representative, the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research, Dr. Hamad Al-Adwani, the Patents and Intellectual Property Rights Office at the Research Sector participated in the 13th International Invention Fair in the Middle East (IIFME) organized by Kuwait Science Club on February 12th 2023. Kuwait University was represented at the Fair by three US registered patents as follows:
• Dr. Ammar Bahman, Mechanical Engineering Department, College of Engineering and Petroleum, and Dr. Naser Al-Sayegh, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, for their patent titled: “An Approach for Determining the Physical Stability of Dispersed Particles in Flowing Suspensions.”
• Prof. Saad Makhseed, Department of Chemistry, College of Science, Dr. Ali A. Husain, and Dr. Asaithampi Ganesan, for their patent titled: “Propargyl- Functionlized Macrocyclic Compounds.”
• Prof. Milad Bitar and Prof. Fahad Al-Mulla, Department of Pharmacology, College of Medicine, for their patent titled: “Method of Treating Delayed Healing of a Wound Associated with Diabetes.”
Achieving a new milestone for Kuwait University, Dr. Ammar Bahman, Mechanical Engineering Department, College of Engineering and Petroleum, and Dr. Naser Al-Sayegh, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, won the silver medal for their research project based on developing a system that can be used for examining the physical stability of suspensions before being utilized in real-life applications, such as energy sector, medical sector, petroleum industry, and any other sector that uses such type of working fluids.
Meanwhile, the bronze medal was awarded to Prof. Milad Bitar and Prof. Fahad Al-Mulla, Department of Pharmacology, College of Medicine, for their research project that created a method for treating the delayed healing of a wound associated with diabetes by administering to the wound a composition comprising an anti-senescence compound and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
The participation of KU’s researchers reflects the sustained efforts of the OVPR, particularly the Patents and Intellectual Property Rights Office which has always been proactive in supporting inventors and paving the way for obtaining further patents.
The IIFME, deemed as the second most significant inventions exhibition worldwide following Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions according to international ranking, has attracted regional and international attention, highlighting the creativity of young Arab inventors while bringing out the advanced role of the State of Kuwait in supporting inventors. Inventions are evaluated and winners are selected by a world-class panel of specialized judges.
