A meeting between Kuwait University and Kuwait Oil Company to discuss ways to enhance research cooperation and strengthen partnership in light of Kuwait’s Vision 2035

As part of strengthening the partnership between Kuwait University and Kuwait Oil Company, the Assistant Vice President for external research collaboration and consultation, Prof. Mabkhoot M. Al-Dousiri, representing KU, held a coordination meeting with the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Planning and Innovation) of KOC, Mr. Mohammad K. Al-Abduljalil. The meeting was attended by Mr. Bader M. Al-Ajmi, Director of the Innovation and Technology Group at the company, to discuss ways of research cooperation and to activate the provisions of the agreement signed between the two parties in July 2019 regarding cooperation in the field of reserves and heavy oil. This aims to enhance research collaboration through the transfer of technology and knowledge, improve oil production and refining processes, and develop industrial and technological processes through scientific research while focusing on supporting the decision-making process in the company to assist in strategic decision-making.

During the meeting, the mechanisms for developing joint research projects between the two parties were discussed, contributing to the support of innovation and the development of national competencies. Additionally, the main challenges faced by the KOC were discussed, as well as ways to address them through this research collaboration between the two esteemed institutions in the upcoming phase.

Prof. Al-Dousiri confirmed that this collaboration is a strategic step to enhance applied science research, aligning with the requirements of the labor market and the needs of the vital oil sector. It also contributes to achieving one of the pillars of The State of Kuwait’s Vision 2035, which is a diverse and sustainable economy based on knowledge.

From his side, Mr. Al-Abduljalil pointed out that the KOC believes in the importance of activating partnerships with academic institutions to develop innovative solutions to address technical and environmental challenges, adding that cooperation with KU is an important pillar in supporting national cadets and developing their scientific and technical capabilities.
This meeting comes as part of the effort of both sides to achieve the objectives of The State of Kuwait’s Vision 2035 by expanding the knowledge base to enhance innovation and improve the level of coordination between academic and industrial entities, to create a developmental environment based on the knowledge economy.
