Kuwait University Wins Gold Medals and other Awards in the 16th International Invention Fair in the Middle East "IIFME"

In a remarkable Addition to its record of excellence, Kuwait University won four gold medals in the 16th International Invention Fair in the Middle East (IIFME) hosted by Kuwait Science Club.

This achievement was realized through the participation of the Patent and Intellectual Property Rights Office at the Research Sector, represented by a select group of KU's inventors holding patents registered at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), demonstrating KU's commitment to nurturing research and innovation.
The participation culminated in several awards as follows:

• Gold Medal with Honors awarded to Prof. Saad Makhseed from the Department of Chemistry, College of Science, and Prof. Mohamed Alkordi for their patent: "Method for Preparing Nitrogen/Sulfur-Doped Activated Carbon" – a promising new carbon material for energy storage and environmental technologies.

• Gold Medal awarded to Prof. Khaled Alhazza from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering and Petroleum, along with his research team of engineers: Shaikha Shams Aldeen, Dalal Anwar Aloudah, Salwa Fares Alazmi, and Hayat Bader Albassam, for their patent: "Automatic Boat Docking System" – an innovative automated system for docking ships and boats.

• Gold Medal with Honors awarded to Dr. Mohammad A. Alfares, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering and Petroleum, along with his research team of engineers: Shaikha O. Alkhalfan, Safa M. Karam, Rabab S. Abdullah, and Zainab K. Ali, for their invention: "Road Pothole Fixer" – a device that provides a temporary, rapid, and safe solution for repairing road potholes.

• Gold Medal with Honors awarded to Dr. Abdulrahman Miteb Alazemi, Prof. Fouzi Mouffouk, Dr. Laila Abdulmohsen Alhaddad, Mohamed Khaled Emira, Tasneem Salem Habib from the Department of Chemistry, College of Science, and Dr. Abdulhamid Mohammed Emwas from the Imaging and Characterization Core Lab at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia, for their invention: "Biomolecule Detection Method Using Diffusion Ordered Spectroscopy" – an advanced method for detecting biomolecules.

In addition to this distinguished achievement, Dr. Abdulrahman Miteb Alazemi received the Association of Arab Universities Award, while Prof. Khaled Alhazza, Dr. Mohammad Alfares, and Prof. Saad Makhseed each received an award from the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity, in recognition of their research efforts and outstanding innovations.

In a statement on this occasion, Dr. Mubkhout Al-Dousari, Assistant Vice President for External Research Cooperation and Consultations, congratulated the winning researchers on their exceptional work. He emphasized that such accomplishments reflect the growing stature of Kuwait University in research and innovation.
He further underscored KU's sustained commitment to supporting inventors and fostering a creative research environment.

The IIFME, deemed as the second most significant invention exhibition worldwide following Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions according to international ranking, has attracted regional and international attention, highlighting the creativity of young Arab inventors while bringing out the advanced role of the State of Kuwait in fostering innovation. All entries are judged by a specialized committee based on international standards.
