In line with the research cooperation agreement between Kuwait University (KU) and Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) in the field of research and strategic development signed between the two parties in July 2019 for a period of five years, and for cooperation in the field of reservoirs, heavy oil and natural gas through the transfer of technology and knowledge, and the improvement of production of industrial and technological processes through scientific research.

Kuwait University organized the closing ceremony of the training workshop entitled “Laboratory Evaluation of Polymer Immersion” through the Laboratory Evaluation Project by Polymer Immersion under the supervision of Dr. Meshal Al-Gharib from the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum, which was held for petroleum reservoir engineers at Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) on Thursday 4th of May 2023, at 12:30 PM in the meeting room of the Dean of the College of Engineering and Petroleum.

The closing ceremony was attended, on Kuwait University’s side, by Acting Vice President for Research Prof. Othman Al-Khudir, Assistant Vice President for Research Analysis and Development Prof. Noriah Al-Kandari, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation Dr. Haneen Al-Ghabra, The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum Prof. Khalid Al-Hazzaa, The Head of Petroleum Engineering Department Dr. Mabkhout Al-Dosari, and Vice Dean of Scientific Affairs Prof. Suroor Al-Otaibi. On KOC’s side, Mr. Bader Al-Munaifi, Executive Vice President of Gas and Innovation, Mr. Hamad Al-Zaabi, Director of Innovation and Technology Group, Mr. Abdullah Al-Otaibi, Planning and Support Team Leader, Mr. Dawoud Kamal, Hydrocarbon Recovery Enhancement Team Leader, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Mariri, Project Manager of Oil Extraction Enhancement , and Dr. Reda Gharbi, a senior Advisor in the Company.

The ceremony was initiated with a speech by Prof. Othman Al-Khudir, Acting Vice President for Research, welcoming the attendees and sharing the aspects of joint scientific and research cooperation between the two institutions, as he emphasized the continuous efforts dedicated by Kuwait University in order to overcome the obstacles to achieve fruitful research cooperation with the prestigious Company.

On his part, Dr. Meshal Al-Ghareeb, supervisor Laboratory Evaluation of Polymer Immersion Project: “ The training workshop aims to introduce petroleum reservoir engineers to the scientific methods used in evaluating polymer solutions used in polymer immersion operations to improve production efficiency from oil reservoirs.

Through the five-day training workshop, Dr. Al-Ghareeb presented lectures specialized in evaluating polymer immersion processes used to increase production efficiency from oil reservoirs. Laboratory experiments to evaluate polymer solutions with the potential to be used in polymer immersion projects were also carried. The lectures were divided as follows:
- Theoretical aspect: Reservoir engineers were introduced to the polymer immersion method and the principles through which polymer solutions are evaluated in order to obtain the highest production efficiency.
- Practical aspect: Experiments were carried out in the improved petroleum laboratories at Kuwait University to evaluate polymer solutions.

Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation, Dr. Haneen Al-Ghabra, expressed that Kuwait University welcomes this cooperation with Kuwait Oil Company in the service of research and wholesome development in the country, hoping that this cooperation will benefit all researchers. At the end of the closing ceremony, the oil reservoir engineers at Kuwait Oil Company who took part in the workshop were honored and souvenir photos were taken.
