Following up their ongoing research collaboration agreement, Kuwait University received a delegation from Kuwait Oil Company on Sunday 26/11/2023 at 10:00 am. The five-year agreement was signed in July 2019 with the aim of finding innovative research ways in resolving some of the challenges and obstacles during oil exploration and extraction processes in Kuwait while capitalizing on KU's research expertise and facilities.
The KOC delegation was headed by Mr. Hamad Al-Za'abi, Innovation and Technology Group Manager, and included Mr. Abdullah Al-Otaibi, Team Leader of Research and Development programs in the group and the agreement's supervisor, Mr. Mohammad Al-Oqab, Team Leader of Research and Technology of Surface Facilities, Mr. Basil Al-Otaibi, Team Leader of Research and Technology of Sub-Surface Facilities, Mr. Fahad Al-Mutairi, Hydrocarbon Extraction Enhancement Team Leader, Prof. Redha Gharbi, the Group's Senior Consultant, in addition to research team members in the Innovation and Technology Group delegated with following up and implementing research projects.
The delegation was received by Prof. Othman Al-Khudher, Acting Vice President for Research, along with his assistants Prof. Noriah Al-Kandari, Assistant Vice President for Research Analysis and Development, Prof. Abdullah Jawad Sultan, Acting Assistant Vice President for Research Finance and Implementation, and Dr. Haneen Al-Ghabra, Assistant Vice President for External Research Collaboration and Consultation, as well as researchers from the Faculty of Engineering and Petroleum who are concerned with the ongoing projects within the agreement including Prof. Eisa Al-Safran, Dr. Mishal Al-Ghareeb, Dr. Mabkhout Al-Dousari, and Dr. Abdullah Sayed Ibrahim from the Petroleum Engineering Department, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sulaili from the Civil Engineering Department, and Prof. Fawaz Al-Enezi from the Computer Engineering Department.
The meeting began with Prof. Othman Al-Khudher welcoming the guests and emphasizing KU's sustained efforts to pave the way for an effective research collaboration with KOC. Then, Mr. Hamad Al-Za'abi gave a speech in which he welcomed the partnership between the two prestigious institutions with the aim of enhancing R&D processes and addressing challenges faced by KOC in the exploration and production field. Next, the process of developing the roadmap of research and technology at KOC was illustrated as well as the goals and dynamics of the strategic collaboration agreement. Then, the research team of each project in the agreement gave a detailed demonstration of the progress of their ongoing projects. The meeting also discussed efforts made to overcome administrative, technical and financial obstacles to achieving fruitful research cooperation between both institutions, including extending the current agreement to enable further new projects.
